Sun sets on Marmalade Challenge
It has been a long and hot summer, but a small but brave band of members and guests took on the bank holiday traffic and made their way to Iffley Church Hall for this years Marmalade Challenge.
5 fencers in total took part in what transpired, due to circumstances, to be the last occasion on which this enjoyable competition will be held. Club members Rob and Sue Brooks, Steven Bateman, Lawrence Burr and guest Kate Smith took to the piste, watched by club members David Partridge, Ken Pearman, Alda Milner-Barry, and our host for the competition Edmund Gray. The poule was refereed by Brian Hill.
Following some very enjoyable fencing Steve ran out the winner undefeated, with Rob in second and our Hon President Lawrence in third. Prizes of jars of marmalade were presented by Edmund.
Edmund was thanked by everyone for his hosting of the competition, along with his hospitality over the years, and a rousing three cheers proposed by Lawrence was duly delivered.
