EPEE CLUB CONTINUES TO MAKE HISTORY

In this our 125th Anniversary year, the Epée Club continues to make history by holding the very first all-women’s poule at the Epée Club Cup competition. In previous years the women have joined the men in a combined poule unique.

On Sunday 25th May, 24 men and 15 women took part in this year’s Epée Club Cup competition held at the Leon Paul Fencing Centre in London. The competition, which is by invitation only, combines top juniors, seniors, veterans and Epée Club members into one poule unique, with the top 8 going forward into a DE.

As in past years the Epée Club Charitable Fund provided the prizes, this year for the top 3 places, the top under 23 and top veteran fencer in each competition. In total 1200 pounds in Leon Paul E-Vouchers were given to the successful épéeists.

The women’s competition now has its own trophy ‘The ladies Cup’. This trophy which was provided by club member Malcolm Fare, has been generously regilded by club member Sue Brooks.

Topping the ‘Ladies’ competition was Danielle Lawson, with Sophie Peat in second with Georgina Usher and Alexandra Powell in equal third. Sophie Peat received top under 23 award and Georgina Usher the top veteran fencer prize.

Men’s results; winning the competition overall and the top under 23 award was Colin Wong, with Greg Allen taking 2nd prize and the top veteran award. In equal third place was Maxton Milner and Florin Mirica.

Full results and placings for both women’s and men’s competitions are available on Fencing Time live.

My thanks go to Marcus Messers in DT, without whose help this competition would not have happened, to all the referees who worked so hard and especially to Jon Willis and Leon Paul for use of the centre.
