125 YEARS - CELEBRATION DINNER

On Friday May 16th 2025, members and invited guests gathered at the Saville Club (Brook St.) to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Epée Club.

Our foundation: ‘On Tuesday 12 June 1900, a meeting styled “the first general meeting constituting the Epée Club” was held in the Savile Club, 107 Piccadilly with 29 founder members’.

Following the AGM, 29 members and guests sat down to an excellent dinner during which the club President David Partridge made the presentation of the Eddie Knott awards to Oana Puiu and club member Ian Lichfield for their coaching support of the Junior Men’s Epée team, in their winning of the Gold Medal in the Junior Men’s Epée team event at the European Championships in Antalya on Monday 3rd March.

The club President went on to present the Boris Berliand Trophy to Al Barbasiewicz, the Fildes Trophy to Sue Brooks and the Epée Club medals to winners of the club competitions for 2024 - 25.

Along with the club competition trophies on display, there was an opportunity for club members to view the Epée Club Trophy. A trophy previously awarded to the winner of the London A-grade Epée competition which had been donated by VP John Glasswell for loan to British Fencing.

VP Lawrence Burr then introduced club members to the new Ladies Trophy for the women’s Epée Club Cup competition. 2025 will be the first year in which the women will have their own competition. The trophy has been donated by club member Malcolm Fare and reguilded by Susan Brooks.
