Lavradio 2019 - 2020
Our penultimate meeting of the 2019-20 season saw a good number of us convene at the Lansdowne Club yesterday, for the rescheduled Lavradio Cup.
We ran a pool unique which was comprised of Phil Barbasiewicz, Steve Bateman, Tony Bowran, Rob and Sue Brooks, Anton Pollard, myself, and then Laurie Laschetti and Neal Skinner of the Lansdowne. We were also joined by John Glasswell and Steve Lennox.

Colonel Hay One Hit
Our last meeting of 2019 saw us at the Lansdowne Club earlier in the week for the Colonel Hay One Hit and Christmas dinner. A number of last-minute withdrawals resulted in a small but perfectly formed pool of 5: Andrew Brannon, Lawrence Burr, Mariette Mason, David Partridge and myself.

Thank you so much for making your contribution to this year’s garden party so special. The exhibition put on by Malcolm Fare was very much appreciated as were the two taster sessions and I am so pleased they were well attended.

AGM dinner and Ranelagh Cup
A busy weekend! Saturday saw our AGM and Dinner which saw us return to the Oriental Club after a number of years. We were 18 in number and were joined by Hilary Philbin, President of British Fencing.

Lefroy Cup
A small but perfectly formed group of fencers met at the Hurlingham Club to contest the Lefroy Cup; we were ably assisted by Andrew Brannon in his capacity as President.
The pool comprised of Philippe Barbasiewicz, Rob & Sue Brooks, guest Dave Hillier and myself. We had a number of Hurlingham members spectating at various points as well as Alex Brooks, Lizzie Stack and Verity Hillier.

Epee Club Cup
I bring you an update on yesterday’s Epée Club Cup.
The Epée Club Cup was held yesterday at the Leon Paul Fencing Centre. Despite a large number of last-minute withdrawals we had a total of 34 of 36 fencers on the day.
This was the first year we have had prize money for the competition, thanks to the CIO, and after all 5 rounds of the initial pools were completed – 272 fights in all – and about a 5th of these (21%) were decided either by 1 hit or on time.
The top 4 fencers from each group were promoted through to Direct Elimination. Three of the promoted fencers were Club members – Greg Allen, Phil Barbasiewicz and Neal Mallett – with Greg losing a closely contested final to the winner, Will East.

e Epée Club Cup - Cash prizes
The Epée Club Cup – which is being held at the Leon Paul Fencing Centre on Saturday 9th June – has just announced that there will be cash prizes totalling £1000.00 for the winners in each of the following categories:
Overall Winner (£400), Runner-up (£200), Third Place (£100), Top Female (£100), Top Under-20 (£100) and Top Veteran (£100).There will also be non monetary prizes for the eight finalists with the winner holding The Epée Club Cup for the year.
