CARYL OLIVER 1952 - 2026
It is with great sadness we report the death of club member Caryl Oliver.
An accomplished foil and epee fencer, Caryl also served the sport as a dedicated administrator. Her career encompassed national and international roles, with significant contributions to fencing in Europe and Australia.
She was a member of the Great Britain foil squad for the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games, and later proudly represented Australia, winning the national epee title in 1988 and the Australian and Oceania veteran epee titles in 2008, 2009 and 2010. At the 2009 Commonwealth Veteran Fencing Championships, she won gold in both individual and team epee, and, in 2016, captained the Great Britain veteran epee team.
Elected to the British Fencing Board in 2015, she also served as Quality Control Manager for British Veterans Fencing at the 2016 European Team Championships and as Team Manager for England Fencing at the 2016 Five Nations Challenge.
Her dedication and contribution to veteran fencing leave a lasting legacy. She will also be remembered for her determination and courage in the face of illness.
We extend our sincere condolences to Caryl Oliver’s family and friends.
